I finally get why people like to shun.

it finally hit me today.

why do religions enjoy shunning.

because many people feel like being close to god makes them special however just being special is not enough for many religious people that shun they must feel extra special how?

In fairness :-

A) I am also a shunner of many of my former friends.

B) I have made my son a shunner by "preventing" his association with kids that I feel are a bad influence on him.

What is the difference?

Well being realistic, I think we should shun people who are not a healthy influence. ( A recent headline in the papers, was of a lady who tried to help an ex junkie, he repaid her by knifing her and her son to death)

However a closer examination of your O.P should " Note" this comment " Why do religious people like shunning?"

A) Many in the organisation are incapable of shunning a friend.

B) I recently experienced shunning from a member of my former congregation. What a message that sent out. It was a very sad statement on the individual, because they know me and I know them, and the shunning was not balanced on rational thinking.

I believe in U.F.Os.

The reason I believe in U.F.Os is that I have seen them.

But if we look deeper at my statement," I believe in U.F.Os, I have seen them" what have I said that is questionable or makes me appear mad? In my opinion nothing, because a U.F.O is an unidentifiable flying object. However most people would assume I have said that I claimed I have seen a space ship from outer space.

I therefore think conspiracy theories are often because people have a serious question that remains unanswered to their satisfaction on the subject. In this world I am not highly educated, but I like to think I don't suffer fools gladly. I also think it reasonable in a free society to question some of the controversial topics people call " conspiracy theories"

Most often people who promote a " conspiracy theory" have an agenda, book sales, power, ego, but occasionally they have done serious research, and raised important questions that need answering, before the " conspiracy theory" is dismissed.

Helping someone to wake up to "the truth about the truth"

we all have loved one that we wish we could "wake up" from the society.. of course it is not wise to force them with information, as that could just cause their defences to go up and make them dig their heals in.. this reminded me of an illustration that the society actually used at a convention many years back:.

if we want someone to move out of their dilapidated, run down and dangerous house that they are sentimentally attached to, we cant just grab them and drag them out.

they will object.. but, if we build a brand-new, safe, secure attractive home right next door and allow them to see it be built, their curiosity will be sparked.

I have been very successful helping people wake up to the " truth about the truth" I put my success down to :-

A) knowing my audience.

B) Delivering a message that is appropriate to my audience.

C) Usng the power of the spoken word calmly.

D) Presenting facts.

E) Listning to response.

F) Not trying to win the argument.

G) Repeating A-F when ever the opportunity presents itself.

Its worth mentioning that most who I have awoken to the truth have:-

A) Having had their minds awoken, closed them again.

B) For personal reasons that I won't judge proven themselves " very good actors" and remained inside the organisation.

As an additional point, when people awake independently, I have helped them by being their for them. This is often when we are needed and when the real healing work begins.

I hope the above has not come across as bragging. The truth is I enjoy helping former friends or witness I meet in the street, but it actually takes very little of my time, and if I had a time sheet to report, the hours spent are not impressive.

I would like to thank every one for the positive comments. My boy has now played football with Troy Deeney and other members of our beloved Watford club. However it was only part of the " Troy Deeney" foundation to raise money for charity.

It was however the biggest day of the year for me, watching Orlando ( my boy) playing with his football heroes. It was better for both of us, better than going to the memorial or winning the lottery.

is the governing body.... a: completely sincere.

they really do believe what they teach.. b: somewhat sincere.

Humble "Judge Rutherford" the second president of the " Watchtower society" lived as a caretaker of this ten bedroom mansion in California, whilst he awaited Abraham, David, Isaiah & Samuel to be resurrected and live in it.

Today the G.B live in shameless luxury, power and ego. To assume they know nothing of the history and failings of the society they lead is in my opinion stupid and naive.

When the GB don't benefit from their power and ego they may be sincere.

why the big controversy over baptizing the dead, they are dead folks..i know it's a quirky practice but jewish leaders are up in arms because the lds leaders are baptizing holocaust victims..what harm is it??

?hell jw's are preaching everyone will go up in flames no one believe that crap except jw but no one is up in arms, they know they walk a different step....the lds leaders agreed to halt baptisms specifically of jews holocaust victims in 2010 but they are at it again, baptizing jews.

this is funny as hell to me.

Maybe I am out of order with my this comment:-

I am sure I am one of many who have benefited from Coftys O.Ps. I can also understand a poster should post with the strength of their convictions, so I have no problem with that. But I also think a poster should know when their posts become dis-respectful and meaningless to an O.P.

Now to answer why I believe in evolution. Sadly I am not well educated, I have read no books on the subject, but I think i must face reality, In my opinion if we were made in the image of God, then this image must be seen in all the torture, all the holocausts, all the evil within mankind. This is the " Self portrait of God" And this is my reason for believing in Evolution.

Now I will respect a poster who can refute my reason for believing in evolution, in their own words.

Surely by now Slim and Cofty realize interacting on each other's threads results only in negative interaction. May I suggest a truce, Slim stays off Coftys O.Ps , and Cofty stays off Slims O.Ps ?...as an outsider I get tired of the senseless arguing, even if Slim enjoys the provocation.

we believe everything is ok as long as you don’t hurt anyone to the best of your definition of hurt, and to the best of your knowledge.. we believe in sex before, during, and after marriage.. we believe in the therapy of sin.. we believe that adultery is fun.. we believe that sodomy’s ok.. we believe that taboos are taboo.. we believe that everything’s getting better despite evidence to the contrary.. the evidence must be investigated, and you can prove anything with evidence.. we believe there’s something in horoscopes, ufo’s and bent spoons.. jesus was a good man just like buddha, mohammed, and ourselves.. he was a good moral teacher though we think, his good morals were bad.. we believe that all religions are basically the same-at least the one that we read was.. they all believe in love and goodness.. they only differ on matters of creation, sin, heaven, hell, god, and salvation.. we believe that after death comes the nothing, because when you ask the dead what happens.

they say nothing.. if death is not the end, if the dead have lied, then its compulsory heaven for all excepting perhaps.

In your O.P I counted " We believe" 15 times. So it would appear you already know what I believe. Anyway thanks for telling me what I believe. Sadly I am sure others posters will contribute to this thead with what " they believe" . However this is a waste of time when all your previous threads are about " What you believe" which you translate as what " we believe.
